Amanzimtoti is the Zulu word that means Sweet Waters, which is an excellent
description of this KwaZulu-Natal holiday resort situated some thirty kilometers
to the south of central Durban. Amanzimtoti is one of the most popular
destinations on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, and offers an excellent range of
accommodation. The town has a number of attractions, including a waterworld
complete with supertube and tidal pool.
In total there are seven kilometers of beach front where the visitor can
enjoy some excellent sea swimming in areas protected by shark nets and
lifeguards. This stretch of coast is a firm favorite with anglers and boasts
some of the finest fishing spots. In the lagoon one can hire rowing boats and
canoes, and there is some excellent birdwatching to be found at the bird
sanctuary. In the latter, one can make a thirty minute walk through the forest
and enjoy viewing some of the 150 species that make this their home.
A twenty minute trip out to sea from Amanzimtoti lies the Aliwal Shoal, rated
by Diver Magazine as one of the world's top ten dive sites. Here you can dive
with Tiger sharks and Hammerheads and can see the huge Brindle Bass and several
types of Ray.
The picturesque town of Amanzimtoti is situated to the south of Durban. It is
ten minutes away from the international airport. The fishing ground, surfing and
beautiful stretches of beaches makes this an ideal holiday destination.
Nature lovers would enjoy bird watching, the Japanese Gardens and trails.
There are two golf courses nearby for the sport enthusiasts.
There is a waterworld with slides and pools within a hundred metres of the
complex. A well lit promenade along the beach provides for safe walking, jogging
and cycling.
